PRESS RELEASE

May 21, 2012

Successful start for the Post Master degree "Biorefinery: bioenergy, bioproducts & biomaterials" at Grenoble INP-Pagora

Grenoble INP-Pagora has already received a positive assessment of its first Post Master degree "Biorefinery: bioenergy, bioproducts & biomaterials" which started last September. This one-year degree program is intended for French or foreign students or professionals who wish to specialize in new developments related to biomaterials that are of more and more interest to industries.

During the first semester, the students appreciated the diversity and quality of teaching not only by professors and researchers from Grenoble INP-Pagora - drawing notably on the advances in research conducted by the school laboratory (LGP2) - but also by outside specialists. Indeed, many courses were offered by researchers at IFP Energies Nouvelles (IFPEN) on biofuels, and by researchers at the CEA Grenoble, on thermal processes in biomass conversion.

Several visits to factories and R&D sites allowed them to meet industrial players from the biomaterials sector, to approach the practical aspects of their production and use, and also to better understand the development of research in the field. Furthermore, they discovered the manufacture of cellulose acetate from cellulose pulp wood at Rhodia Acetol (Isère) and bioplastic packaging at CiccaPack (Isère), as well as eco-design and packaging life cycle analysis in CGL Pack (Haute-Savoie). Research resources mobilized by the IFPEN and CEA were also presented.

During this second semester dedicated to a research project, the students are currently applying this wide range of academic and practical knowledge at Schneider Electric (energy management), Siegwerk (manufacture of inks), Soprema (waterproofing, insulation) and at Wageningen University in Holland.

For the academic year 2012-2013, applications can be sent or dropped off at Grenoble INP-Pagora until 15 June 2012. Application form available at: http://pagora.grenoble-inp.fr

Grenoble INP-Pagora, the international school of paper, print media and biomaterials is one of six engineering schools of Grenoble Institute of Technoloy (Grenoble INP). Certified Quality Safety Environment, it trains future managers in areas related to paper, printing, packaging and biomaterials. The school also offers two professional degrees (Digital flow management and Industrial print media).  Its wide range of teaching and mastery learning (engineering and professional degrees) can continuously adapt its training to industry needs. The school is also developing international training in collaboration with European universities. It offers a master degree in pulp and paper and a post master in biorefinery. Strong industrial partnerships allow its 60 graduates per year to access attractive careers in France and abroad. The innovative research conducted by its laboratory (LGP2) contributes to improving processes and creating products that meet new needs including environmental needs. Active monitoring of technological advances in these industries is carried out by the Cerig cell . All of these activities ensures teaching at the forefront of scientific and technical developments. http://pagora.grenoble-inp.fr - http://cerig.efpg.inpg.fr

The Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Science and Graphic Arts (LGP2) is a joint research unit (UMR 5518) involving the CNRS, the Agefpi, Grenoble INP and the Centre Technique du Papier. The LGP2 includes five research teams: Process Chemistry - Paper and Environment Engineering - Physics of fibrous structures - Science & graphic techniques - Converting-biomaterial -packaging.
