Learning World, season 2
Education is the challenge of the 21st Century
Doha, Qatar - 03.11.2011 - Learning World, euronews signature weekly magazine on education, is back with a second season. The program will continue to travel the globe, in search of informative, inspiring and moving stories on education.
Presented from Doha by Maha Barada, it will benefit from an extended duration of 10 minutes, and of a new visual identity.
Learning World is produced in partnership with WISE, the World Innovation Summit for Education, an initiative of Qatar Foundation.
Season 2 starts with an episode dedicated to "Teaching peace". The first subject takes viewers to the United States, where young Palestinian and Israeli girls spend their time together during the summer camp. They meet there, those whom they call "the others".
In the second part, euronews interviews Trisha Redy, who works for the UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research). She forms people conflict management and peace keeping.
Finally, the third part of the magazine takes place around the Prespa Lake, situated between Greece, Albania and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, where the Greek NGO "Culture Triangle of Prespa" works in due to ease the conflicts and bring the dialogue again between different people, inhabiting the region.
New episodes available:
"Talk and walk and learn with animals", learning with animals is one educational method that can offer a sound teaching technique. But what can children learn from animals? To find out, this week Learning World heads to Switzerland, Singapore and Ireland for a close up on education and the animal kingdom.
"Class size matter", a look at the issue of class sizes, with reports from the UK and Italy, and talk to Matthew Chingos, an expert on education policy from the Brookings Institution in the US, for insight into the ideal classroom size.
"How clean is clean", a look at some of the initiatives aiming to build a hygienic educational environment and teach students about their health. We went to Cambodia, Uganda and the US to witness some of the projects for ourselves.
