PRODUCTION

Euronews announces the production of

"Space Chronicles"*

The leading news channel in Europe pursues its strategy of diversification by getting into documentary co-production.

Made with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA), co-produced by Euronews and Upside Television and distributed by Upside Distribution, "Space Chronicles"* takes a fresh look at space exploration.

This documentary series of 6 episodes lasting 52 minutes each tackles the key themes in the conquest of space and its recent advances: the Ariane saga, the exploration of comets and asteroids, human spaceflight, the exploration of Mars, the exoplanets and finally, the Big Bang and the origins of the Universe.

Each episode draws on the archives of the monthly programme "Space" which has been broadcast on Euronews for more than 10 years, in partnership with the ESA.

"Space Chronicles"*, a captivating documentary series of six films, is coming out in April 2015 and is already available for pre-ordering from Upside Distribution.

* The name may change

Michael Peters, Chairman of the Euronews Executive Board, declared: "This project combines three unique types of know-how. The know-how of the ESA, which is contributing its mastery of the European space programmes, the know-how of Upside Television, with whom we are co-producing the series, and of Upside Distribution, which is going to be in charge of marketing it around the world and, finally, of course, the know-how of Euronews, which reports on advances in space exploration on a daily basis. Furthermore, this is a new area of diversification for Euronews; a way of highlighting our know-how to create a powerful editorial offering."

Fernando Doblas, Head of the ESA Communication Department, said: "For 10 years, we have been partnering with Euronews to share our passion and our space programmes with the channel's loyal viewers. Our joint programme 'Space' is proud to have a constantly growing audience, both on the TV channel and on the YouTube channels of Euronews and the ESA. And so it was only natural for us to provide our technical and editorial advice to this ambitious project."

Yann Le Prado, Director of Upside Television, stated: "Someday, science will catch up with fiction and man will walk on Mars. In the meantime, we will continue to be fascinated by what goes on above our heads. Space Chronicles is just as much for enthusiasts as it is for novices, combining science and spectacle. There's no doubt that this programme will find its place with an international audience. And isn't space the only place where the Nations of the whole world share their missions and their home?"
