Press Release

Yves Andrès appointed Director of International Relations and Academic

Partnerships at IMT Atlantique

Nantes, November 2, 2026 - IMT Atlantique, a leading French engineering school and international research center, announces the appointment of Yves Andrès as Director of International Relations and Academic Partnerships. Effective today, he succeeds Stéphane Roy, who is continuing his career at the French Embassy in Pakistan.

In his new role, Yves Andrès will be primarily responsible for continuing to lead IMT Atlantique’s international strategy, consolidating and expanding its global network of academic partnerships, and strengthening the institution’s appeal to international students and researchers. His appointment comes at a key moment for IMT Atlantique as the institution continues to increase its international visibility and expand cooperation worldwide.

“IMT Atlantique has undeniable global appeal,” says Yves Andrès. “I am delighted to put my academic experience and international networks at the service of our teams to further raise our international profile, build new strategic alliances and offer our students increasingly rich intercultural experiences.”

An academic and leadership career defined by excellence

Yves Andrès brings a high-level scientific profile deeply rooted in IMT Atlantique’s ecosystem. A professor at IMT Atlantique since February 2011, he has until now headed the Department of Energy Systems and Environment, which he had led since March 2016, while also serving as Deputy Director of the GEPEA laboratory (CNRS Joint Research Unit 6144).

This strong dual background, combining academic excellence and institutional leadership, gives him a broad strategic perspective from which to advance the institution’s ambitions.

An international outlook embedded in his research career

Yves Andrès holds a PhD in Cellular Biology and Microbiology from the University of Strasbourg, as well as an Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR) from the University of Nantes. His career has been strongly shaped by international engagement.

A builder of cross-continental networks, he has personally developed and led major scientific collaborations with leading institutions across all five continents. His long-standing involvement in complex international initiatives, such as the European NINFA project and the Franco-Indonesian FICEM consortium, reflects both his strong command of academic diplomacy and his proven ability to raise the international profile of French research.

Proven experience with leading international programs

This international outlook has also been shaped through education and academic program leadership. After coordinating the prestigious European Erasmus Mundus ME3 master’s program for several years and leading the international PM3E Master’s program, Yves Andrès developed distinctive expertise in attracting global talent and managing multicultural university consortia.

He will now bring this experience in developing high-level dual-degree pathways to the benefit of all IMT Atlantique students and partners.
